UH athletic department unveils new promotions

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i-Manoa is forming a new student spirit section for its events called the "Manoa Maniacs," the athletic department announced yesterday.

The spirit section, which will be open to students from all UH system campuses, is part of a series of new marketing initiatives backed by sponsors.

Students can purchase tickets in the football booster section beginning Monday. Areas for students will be designated at all UH events. Students in those areas will be eligible to receive T-shirts, premium items and merchandise discounts, UH said.

Other efforts include:

  • A redesigned athletic department Web site (hawaiiathletics.com) that was launched yesterday.
  • Weekly e-mail newsletters — "H-Mail" — to inform fans about upcoming events and promotions. Fans can register on the UH Web site.
  • A "UH Kids Club" open to children ages 6 to 14. Members receive T-shirts and discounts.
  • The previously-announced alcohol-free "family zone" for UH football games. Special contests, giveaways and activities will be tailored to kids.
