Arrest follows attack on pastor

Police yesterday arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree assault in connection with an incident on Sunday in which he allegedly punched the pastor in the face at a church on Ke'eaumoku Street.

Police said the man became upset at church and punched the pastor, causing a cut above one of his eyes. The man then jumped off a second-story balcony, injuring himself, and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

Police were notified yesterday that the man was due to be released and went to the hospital to arrest him.

Diners collar purse-snatcher

A purse-snatching incident at Restaurant Row came to an abrupt end at about 8:30 last night when restaurant patrons came to the aid of the woman whose purse was taken.

The woman was having dinner and had placed her purse on the chair next to her when a boy approached, grabbed the purse and began to run away.

Other patrons were able to catch the youth and held him until police arrived. He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree theft.

Woman faces car-theft charge

A 28-year-old woman is facing auto-theft charges after she was stopped on Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku early yesterday morning.

A police officer reported seeing the woman driving erratically and ordered her to pull over to see if she was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

While checking on the car's registration, the officer learned the car had been reported stolen last September and the driver was arrested.

Motorcyclist a theft suspect

A 36-year-old man was arrested at about 7:15 in Kailua last night on suspicion of motor-vehicle theft after he was seen riding a motorcycle without license plates.

The motorcycle's owner, also 36, had reported it stolen on July 20.

Hit-and-run victim identified

The Honolulu medical examiner has identified a motorcyclist killed Friday in a hit-and-run collision on the H-1 Freeway extension.

Kapiolani Aea, 38, of Pearl City, died of internal injuries when she and a passenger on her motorcycle were struck from behind by a pickup truck about 4:15 a.m. The passenger was taken The Queen's Medical Center.
