Driver arrested after 4 collisionsA 20-year-old man is facing car theft and criminal property damage charges after being involved in four collisions between Kane'ohe and Kalihi yesterday afternoon.
Police attempted to pull the man over for various traffic offenses in Kane'ohe at about 2:30 p.m. but he took off instead. A check of the car's license plates showed that it had been reported stolen earlier.
Police lost sight of the car for a short while before it was spotted again by other police officers headed toward Kalihi on Likelike Highway.
The police helicopter was called into action and watched as the driver got into three collisions while headed over the Likelike and then a fourth collision in Kalihi.
Following the fourth collision, the man jumped out of the car and tried to run away but was caught by police and arrested.
Man caught in Internet sting
A Mililani man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree electronic enticement of a child yesterday morning after he showed up at a fast food restaurant in Makiki allegedly intending to meet an under-age girl with whom he had arranged to have sex with via the Internet.
The man, 42, was met instead at about 8:10 a.m. by an agent from the Hawai'i Department of the Attorney General who was working in conjunction with the Hawai'i Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
Death may be due to overdose
A man whose body was found at a Nimitz Highway overpass near Kakoi street in Mapunapuna yesterday is believed to have died of a drug overdose the day after being released from a drug treatment program.
According to information gathered by police, the man, 43, had a long history of drug abuse. The man completed and was released from a drug treatment program on Wednesday and then went directly to Chinatown to buy heroin.
The man was last seen alive by a friend under the overpass where the two men had gone to sleep. The man was found lifeless yesterday morning and a hypodermic needle was found under his body.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
Honolulu police arrest fugitive
After asking for the public's help in finding him, police yesterday arrested fugitive Ronald Tripp on warrants accusing him of assault and contempt of court and for probation revocation.
Wai'anae police officers arrested Tripp at about 10:55 a.m. at an Ala Hema Street address.
Tripp was the topic of numerous media reports on July 24 about a missing pig hunter from Whitmore Village who had failed to return from a hunt.
Honolulu firefighters conducted and aerial and ground search for Tripp along with volunteers from several other agencies, but could not find him.
Police said they now believe Tripp deliberately avoided being found last month because the bail on the various warrants for his arrest totaled more than $35,000.
