By Derek Paiva
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

Whoa-oh, here they come! Honolulu-based Hall & Oates tribute band, Quaker Oates, from left, Richard, BBJ, Ray, Brian and Steve — do it live at Club Rebel Rebel's first anniversary party tonight at Club Pauahi.
In a somewhat subdued weekend, a handful of continuing and one-time-only events with a little something for everyone's palate:

DRUMS, PLEASE!

Los Angeles-based percussionist Ravi has played alongside George Clinton, in Gap commercials and Korn videos, and still plays most Playboy Mansion parties. Mmmmm ... Korn! So why is he playing Honolulu? The club scene needs live timbales, baby! And Ravi will, indeed, be laying down the afterhours beats all over town this weekend: Wonderlounge at the W (11 p.m. tonight), Wave Waikiki (1:30 a.m. tonight, Saturday), and Skyline at the Hanohano Room (11 p.m. Saturday). Cover charges vary. Call 941-0424 ext. 12 (Wave Waikiki) and 754-6964 (Wonderlounge at the W).

SOW YOUR WILD OATES

Can a Sugar Ray tribute band be far behind? In a sure sign the apocalypse is nigh, Hall & Oates tribute band Quaker Oates brings the live M-E-T-H-O-D-O-F-L-O-V-E to Club Rebel Rebel! tonight. Groove to "Rich Girl." Slow dance to "Sara Smile." Marvel at how truly putrid a song "Kiss On My List" is. The night is being billed as the final live appearance by the Honolulu-based quintet of Hall & Oates fanboys. Say it isn't so! The evening also marks Rebel Rebel's first birthday, so wish 'em a happy one. From 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Club Pauahi. Entry is $5.

OLD-SCHOOL SOUNDS

Haven't sampled Vintage yet? Imagine an evening of classic turntable grooves ('90s hip-hop, '80s mod, '70s soul) filling the sublime, downtown-air kissed environs of Indigo Eurasian Cuisine. Architechs and Main Ingredient DJs set the soundtrack. Indigo provides a half-price appetizer menu. Forget about woking Thursdays. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesdays; 21 and older.

JAZZ IN THE CITY

Staying late at work downtown on Thursdays? Unwind with the live "urban jazz" of multi-instrumentalist DeShannon Higa and Groove Improv Artists at Detox's Urban Jungle lounge. Entry is free, the music flows from 8 to 11 p.m. A menu of martini specials and pupu is yours to peruse. At Alakea and Beretania streets.

FAREWELL BREW SUNDAY

Stone Groove Family says goodbye to five years of Sunday- night spinning at Brew Moon this weekend. The perennially-chill Dark Side of the Moon weekly checks out — on what, sadly enough, is also its fifth anniversary — with DJs Smooth Operator, Delve, Jrama, Zack Morris and Sub Z. Show your love to G-Dog and the rest of the Stone Groove crew. From 10 p.m.
