Service today for Schofield soldier

Services have been set for Cpl. JOSEPH FRANKLIN HERNDON II, the Schofield Barracks solder who was killed July 29, 2004, in Iraq. The native of Derby, Kan., served with the Army's 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division (Light). He was born in Hutchinson, Kan. Survived by wife, Melaine; mother and stepfather, Virginia and Gerald Evans; sister, Cynthia Ambeau; stepsisters, Chesiree Kregg and Chelsea Evans; grandparents, Everett and Betty Barber and Kenneth and Betty Herndon Sr. Services 10 a.m. today at Derby (Kansas) High School Football Stadium; burial in Lakeview Cemetery. Donations to the Joe Herndon II Memorial Scholarship Fund. Arrangements by Smith Family Mortuaries, Derby.
