Busy week for O'ahu roadwork

If you're planning on leaving the house at all this week, it might be good to keep in mind a piece of old English doggerel: "Straight down the crooked lane/And all around the square."

Traffic crews will be working, it seems, on nearly every major road on O'ahu. Whether it's a lane closure here, or a detour there, it's going to be nearly impossible to go anywhere in a straight line.

If you're the type of person who can't tell the difference between Kalaniana'ole and Kamehameha Highway and don't really care, you can just pack an extra cooler full of patience and head out without reading further.

But if you're the type of driver who needs to know in advance where every little traffic cone is going to be, here's a look at problem areas, at least the ones the state knows about in advance.

First, though it should go without saying, we quote from the state Transportation Department about the closures: "Motorists should anticipate delays, allow for extra travel time and use caution while driving through the work area."

Now, the details:

Moanalua Freeway

• Closed westbound from School Street to Pu'uloa Road today through Friday, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Plan to use either Dillingham Boulevard or Nimitz Highway instead.

• One eastbound lane also will be closed from Ola Lane to Kalihi Street today to Friday, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

H-1 Freeway

• One westbound lane closed tomorrow through Friday between Kapi'olani Boulevard and King Street from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• One westbound lane closed from the H-1/Moanalua Freeway merge to the Pearl City off-ramp tomorrow through Friday between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

• One town-bound lane closed near Makakilo Interchange from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow through Friday. Also closed 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 14.

• Town-bound Makakilo on-ramp closure began yesterday and runs through 5 p.m. Aug. 16. South King Street.

• One lane closed between the King Street H-1 Freeway off-ramp and Kapi'olani Boulevard from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow to Aug. 13.

Moanalua Road

• The left lane in the Pearl City direction will be closed for two months for seismic retrofitting repairs.

Farrington Highway

• Right lane in the Wai'anae-bound direction closed from Nanakuli Avenue to Nanakuli Stream and the right lanes in both directions closed between Princess Kahanu Avenue and Lualualei Place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow through Friday.

Likelike Highway

• One lane closed in both directions between Valley View Drive and Wilson tunnel from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday through Friday.

• Kane'ohe-bound lanes closed from Valley View Drive to Wilson Tunnel from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

• All Kane'ohe-bound lanes closed today through Friday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

• One Honolulu-bound lane closed near Wilson Tunnel tomorrow through Friday, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Nimitz Highway

• One lane closed in both directions between Sumner and Queen streets from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow through Friday.

• One or two lanes closed between Sumner and Queen streets with intermittent road closures between inbound and outbound roadways between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., tomorrow through Friday.

Kamehameha Highway

• One lane closed in either direction between Waiahole Valley road and Ka'a'awa Place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow through Friday.

Fort Weaver Road

• One lane closed in south-bound direction south of Laulaunui Street between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

• One lane closed in north-bound direction south of Laulaunui Street between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
