'Aiea takes Legion title by beating Kalani, 4-1

Blake Lamug spaced 12 hits as Aiea defeated Kalani, 4-1, yesterday in the American Legion (ages 18-under) state tournament championship game at Hans L'Orange Park.

Lamug, named the tournament's MVP, walked three and struck out three.

Aaron Asher had two hits and an RBI for Aiea, which advances to the Western Regional at Greeley, Colo., starting Aug. 12.

Randy Kitagawa batted 3 for 4 for Kalani. Ty Sarchet worked the final six innings — allowing one hit and no walks while striking out seven.



Pearl City Seniors trounce Nevada

Winning pitcher Shannon Liu backed his own cause with two doubles and two RBIs as Pearl City blitzed Nevada, 19-5, yesterday in the Little League Senior (ages 15-16) Western Regional at San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

Kealii Gilman homered for Pearl City, which scored 10 runs in the first inning. The game was halted after Nevada batted in the top of the fifth.



Pearl City Juniors remain undefeated

Alika Pruett had two hits and five RBIs as Pearl City beat North Scottsdale (Ariz.), 9-5, yesterday in the Little League Junior (ages 13-14) Western Regional at Forest Grove, Ore.

Bryson Nakamura and John Abreu teamed on a four-hitter to help Pearl City improve to 3-0 in its five-team pool. North Scottsdale fell to 2-1.

Pearl City will play Billings, Mont., today.



Babe Ruth 14s pummel Nevada

Paul Snieder had three hits and two RBIs to back the seven-hit pitching of Reece Kiriu as Hawai'i defeated South Reno (Nev.), 9-1, yesterday in the Babe Ruth Pacific Southwest Regional for 14-year-olds at Murray, Utah.

Matthew Suiter added two hits and two RBIs for Hawai'i, which plays either Northern California or Arizona tomorrow.



Mililani wins opener in Pony West Zone

Kyle Gonzaga struck out eight in three innings and Dustin Antolin hit two home runs yesterday to lead Mililani to a 14-4 victory over Covina, Calif., in the opener of the Pony League's Pony Division (ages 13-14) West Zone Tournament at Fullerton, Calif.

Gonzaga had not allowed a hit when he was relieved in the fourth with a 14-0 lead.

Antolin had a two-run homer, a solo homer and five RBIs. T.J. Esclito had a two-run triple and two-run homer for Mililani, which plays Morgan Hills, Calif., today.
