ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
East-West Center takes time to monkey around

Advertiser Staff

Here's something you don't see every day at the East-West Center: monkeys. The center's art gallery (at Dole Street and East-West Road) is holding an exhibit, "Monkeys: Myth, Magic, and Mischief in the Arts of Asia" through Sept. 30, showing the deep meaning monkeys have for people in much of Asia. The exhibit includes paintings and prints, carvings, sculpture, puppets, toys and miniatures. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.

NEW FEATURE

Coffee Break now offering puzzle just for your keiki

Premiering today on our Coffee Break page, E2, is a new feature for kids: KidSpot, a fun and educational puzzle by Dick Rogers of United Feature Syndicate.

Designed to challenge young readers, KidSpot comes in varying formats, including crosswords, connect-the-dots and compare-the-pictures. It will appear Monday through Saturday.

Parents have a daily option for sharing newspaper content with keiki. If other elements of the paper are too adult, or if adults in the family want to work on the crossword, clip KidSpot for the young ones. Enjoy!

FINAL WORD

Usher | R&B star, when asked if there is anyone's career he'd like to have:

"If you could put the career of Will Smith, Sean 'Puffy' Combs, L.A. Reid and Michael Jackson all in one, there you have it. Those are some big shoes to fill, but I've got big feet."
