Girl claims man assaulted her

Police are investigating a report filed yesterday by a 17-year-old girl who said she went out Saturday night with a girlfriend who introduced her to man who later sexually assaulted her.

The girl said the three drank alcoholic beverages and that the man volunteered to take her home to her 'Aiea residence, where he assaulted her.

Drunken-driving arrests reported

Big Island police arrested 27 motorists for drunken driving last week. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash and two were under the age of 21. Nineteen of the arrests were in the Kona District.

This year, there have been 634 DUI arrests on the Big Island, compared with 591 during the same period last year, an increase of 7 percent.

Traffic rerouted due to fallen pole

Traffic had to be rerouted in the area of Makiki and Makiki Heights Drive this morning due to a fallen utility pole.

The pole was damaged during a traffic mishap at about 2:45 a.m., police said, resulting in power outage affecting the immediate area.

A Hawaiian Electric Co. crew was notified and was in the process of repairing the pole early today and into the early rush-hour period.
