When Don Brown approached programming people at Oceanic Time Warner Cable with an idea for a new show, he came armed with a demo reel and notebook filled with possibilities: profiles of local directors and actors, features on film programs at various Hawai'i schools, and spots at film festivals statewide.

His pitch in November proved successful. "Hawaii's Reel Stories" premiered May 18 on Oceanic Cable Channel 16, with new episodes premiering tonight.

"It's a series dedicated to all the different aspects of the film industry here in Hawai'i," said Brown, executive producer of the show. And as the former film curator at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and former manager of the Art House at Restaurant Row 9, Brown knows a thing or two about the industry.

Oceanic has approved 26 episodes, which will run through May. Twelve episodes have been completed (six have already aired), so Brown is scouting possibilities for the remaining 14 slots.

With the FOX, NBC and ABC networks filming shows here, Brown isn't worried about a lack of ideas. "I may have too many," he said and laughed.
