Pearl City knocks off Northern California

Shannon Liu drove in two runs and Kealii Gilman and Casey Fujishige each had an RBI as Pearl City topped Northern California, 9-4, yesterday in the Little League Senior (ages 15 to 16) Western Regional at San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

Pearl City (2-1) scored all of its runs in the third inning, sending 13 batters to the plate. Pearl City also benefited from an error and six walks in the inning.

The Hawai'i team will face Southern California today. If Pearl City beats Southern California, a second game will be played 30 minutes after to determine the berth to the World Series. The World Series begins Sunday at Bangor, Maine.

Billings deals Pearl City first loss, 5-0

Pearl City absorbed its first loss at the Little League Juniors (ages 13 to 14) Western Regional, falling to Billings, Mont., 6-0, at Forest Grove, Ore.

Pearl City is 3-1 after pool play, and will face Juneau, Alaska, today at 5 p.m., HST, in one semifinal. Northern California and Arizona face off in the other semifinal.

Hawai'i Babe Ruth falls to Phoenix, 3-2

Hawai'i lost to Phoenix, 3-2, at the Babe Ruth Pacific Southwest Regional (age 14) Tournament yesterday at Murray, Utah.

Matthew Suiter and Josh Bninski scored runs for Hawai'i, which is 2-1 in the double-elimination tournament.

Hawai'i will play Visalia, Calif., today, and the winner will need to beat Phoenix twice tomorrow to advance to the World Series in Wilson, S.C.
