16-year-old reels in blue marlin off Big Isle

Five blue marlin judged to be less than 300 pounds were tagged and released during the first day of the 45th Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament yesterday off Kailua, Kona on the Big Island.
Among those who reeled in large marlin was 16-year-old Brian Reece of Kenya's Malindi Sea Fishing Club, the youngest competitor in the competition.
The five teams that caught large fish are tied for first with 100 points.
The 18-team competition runs through Friday.

Carll leads with 69 on first day at Ko'ele
Kevin Carll shot a 3-under-par 69 yesterday to lead going into today's final round of the 2004 Aloha Section PGA Club Professional Championship at The Experience at Ko'ele at Lana'i.
Carll, head professional at Ko Olina Golf Club, started with five consecutive birdies en route to a front-nine 32. Brendan Moynahan and Brian Sasada are one shot behind. Andrew Feldmann and Matt Pakkala are at 71.
The top six golfers will qualify for the Western Regional of the Club Professional Championship, Oct. 14 to 17 at Patterson, Calif.

Sunday's article on San Francisco Giants' pitcher Jerome Williams incorrectly reported that Tre Jordan was the son of Jerome and Sarah Williams. Tre Jordan Fuentes-Williams is the son of Jerome and Chastity Fuentes. Tre is being raised in Hawai'i by his mother.
