Clyde Rego played in U.S. Open

Professional golfer Clyde Rego, in a coma after suffering a brain aneurysm June 13, died yesterday at St. Francis Medical Center.
He would have been 47 on Aug. 23.
Rego was one of only 13 Hawai'i golfers to have played in the U.S. Open. He missed the cut in the 1983 championship at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.
One of four professional golfers in his family, Rego won the 1978 Manoa Cup, beating David Ishii, 2 and 1, in the 36-hole final. He played several years on the PGA Tour. His best finish was second in the 1979 Atlanta Classic.
Rego is survived by his parents, Arthur and Beatrice Rego; brothers Art and Darrell, and sister Brenda.
Wake services will be held Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. at Mililani Memorial Park. Viewing, starting at 9 a.m., and a funeral service will be held Aug. 25 at Our Lady of Sorrows in Wahiawa with burial to follow at Mililani Memorial Park.

Moynahan earns regional berth
Host pro Brendan Moynahan shot a 3-under-par 69 yesterday to earn medallist honors of the Aloha Section PGA Club Professional Championship at The Experience at Ko'ele on Lanai.
Moynahan finished with a two-round total of 5-under 139 to earn one of six Aloha Section berths in the Western Regional. Moynahan has qualified for the regionals eight years in a row.
Also qualifying were: Ko'olau's John Lynch (69141), Makena's Brian Sasada (73143), Ko Olina's Kevin Carll (75144), Mauna Kea's Kevin Hayashi (72145) and Kuki'o's Matt Pakkala, who won a playoff for the final berth.
