Police question man in alleged sex assault at school

By David Waite

Police arrested a 39 year-old Mililani man and questioned him for about an hour at police headquarters yesterday regarding a complaint by a 10-year-old boy, who said he was sexually assaulted by the man Aug. 3 at a private school in Windward O'ahu.

The man, who was arrested for questioning in connection with the case, was released without charges.

The man was served with several warrants accusing him of contempt for failing to show up for traffic court and was given a District Court date of Aug. 17 to answer to the contempt charges.

The boy told police he was assaulted by a school employee at about 3 p.m., after classes at the Kailua school were dismissed for the day.

Police today would not identify the school where the incident is alleged to have occurred, partly because of concerns that the boy's classmates may be able to identify him if the school's name were released.

The boy's report appears to be an isolated incident, and it appears that no other children were involved, police said.

The employee will no longer be allowed on the school's campus, police said.
