' 'Ulalena' show charms Brosnan, wife

Sight 'ems: Actor Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye-Smith, were at " 'Ulalena" at the Maui Myth & Magic Theatre on Maui last week; they loved the multimedia spectacle so much, the couple signed a note to the cast, which read,"Much love and a great memory to be at your show last night (Aug. 4) ... a million thanks ..."

At Lahaina's beachfront Pacific 'O a few nights back, Carlos Santana, his wife, family, and group of friends relaxed and enjoyed the good food and view ...

Paul Rodriguez, the stand-up comic and actor ("The Latin Kings of Comedy," "A Million to Juan"), visited the Palace Showroom of the 'Ohana Reef Towers Hotel on Saturday, catching up with Andy Bumatai about their collaborative gigs dating back two decades. Bumatai even hauled out an old photo of the pair taken when Bumatai was performing at the Canoe House at the 'Ilikai hotel, prompting Bumatai's partner in comedy these days,

Paul Ogata, to note: "Let's just say velour was a sad moment in American pop culture." Ogata and Rodriguez also have a "thing" going, too, since both appear in the forthcoming Damon Wayans film, "Behind That Smile." Both Pauls had a brief encounter in Hollywood recently, when they attended a "wrap" party. Because Ogata's wife couldn't attend, the local stand-up had a blond as his date — a hobbling Jaz Kaner (also a former Islander), who made the trek from Long Beach despite a foot injury suffered while surfing. ...

Rodrigues' son, Paul Jr. (also called P-Rod), just earned a gold medal for Men's Street Skateboarding in an X Games telecast on ESPN. ...

Speaking of laughs: "Make Me Laugh 3," another in the series of comedic bills, will be staged at 9 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Souths Seas Village, Hawaiian Hut (on the grounds of the Ala Moana Hotel). The lineup will include Kaleo Pilanca, Booga Booga (Ed Ka'ahea, Dave Lancaster), Greg Gabaylo, Mo Dixon, Junior Kekuewa Jr. and Randy "Akebono" Rowan. Call 545-3642. ...

Augie & Lanai have resumed their Comedy Shack gig at 8 p.m. Fridays at Dave & Buster's at the Ward Entertainment Complex. Expect the ha-ha's through Sept. 10. Tickets: $12 at the door. ...

Itemizations: Pamela Young, co-anchor of the 5 p.m. news at KITV-4, has been an opera buff for some time now. Tomorrow night, she steps in to do a cameo role in the Hawaii Opera Theatre's summertime confection, "The Mikado," appearing as a representative of the consul general of Japan. ...

School-age youngsters know Lisa Foiles as a regular on Nickelodeon's "All That," so a younger element is likely to show up for her forthcoming live shows at The ARTS at Marks Garage, at 7 p.m. Aug. 26, 27 and 28. Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for children 10 and younger. Foiles and her "All That" colleagues will have a part in Dana Carvey's upcoming "Master of Disguise" and she's been a regular on the Disney Channel's hit series, "Even Stevens." ...

It wasn't all that difficult for Anne Swanson and Trish O'Neill, to lure Puchi Romig to lunch at Hoku's at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental, since all are on the Hawai'i Theatre board, and the hotel is a major supporter of the downtown theater. But instead of a fund-raising meeting, which Romig anticipated, she was the focus of a surprise 65th birthday party. ...

Around town: That "'70s Nostalgia Night" event last Saturday had a turn-away crowd of 5,000, enabling Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Honolulu and the American Cancer Society to receive $1,000 apiece, according to organizer Dalton Tanonaka. The Dimensions, Calientes, Connie Kissinger, Les Hee as Elvis and Liz Damon performed; you can see Hee from 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow at the Banana Patch Lounge at the Waikiki Miramar Hotel and from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Ye Olde Fox and Hounds in Kahala. ...

Because Sunset Grill doesn't serve breakfast, the only place you can savor a morning meal from the Restaurant Row eatery will be at Saturday's Farmers' Market, at Kapi'olani Community College. Chef Jim Gillespie will offer a Portuguese Sweetbread Monte Cristo, Wild Salmon Hash on Dean's Greens and roasted eggplant with veggies and goat cheese in a wrap. Yums! ...
