Advertiser Staff

A 53-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with a fire that heavily damaged a Kuli'ou'ou home July 20.

The man, who lived at 365 Kuli'ou'ou Road, was arrested yesterday morning in Kailua. He was being held last night and faced one count of first-degree criminal property damage.

The fire destroyed the single-story main portion of the home and damaged a two-story addition.

Fire inspectors determined that the fire, which caused about $270,000 in damage, had been deliberately set.

Witnesses told police that they saw a man leaving the home with some personal items shortly before the fire began.

Woman detained in shooting

A 26-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the shooting in the leg of a man Wednesday in Makakilo.

Police went to a Puapake Street home at 9:11 a.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot fired. They found what appeared to be blood in an area from the doorway to the roadway. According to officers, the woman answered the door but said that nothing had happened.

Later, a 30-year-old man went to St. Francis Medical Center-West with a gunshot wound on his lower right leg, police said. He initially told police that the woman shot him during an argument. But he later said he took the gun away from the woman and accidentally shot himself.

The woman was being held last night pending charges.
