City bus hits woman in its path

A woman was critically injured late last night when she was struck by a city bus in Pearl City.

Details were not available, but the woman, in her 40s or 50s, may have stepped or jumped in front of the bus as it headed east on Kamehameha Highway near Lehua Avenue shortly before 10 p.m., according to Emergency Medical Services workers.

The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

There were no reports of injuries aboard the bus.



Suspect detained in rock-throwing

Police arrested a 38-year-old man yesterday for investigation of criminal property damage after a rock-throwing incident on Kapi'olani Boulevard damaged three vehicles and slightly injured one person.

The police said a man began to throw rocks at cars at 11:30 a.m., hitting the vehicles of a 46-year-old male tourist, a 31-year-old Waikiki woman and a 20-year-old 'Aiea woman.

One of the drivers suffered cuts after a rock shattered the windshield. The driver refused treatment at the scene.

Officers were flagged down, gave chase and arrested the suspect without incident.

The suspect was being held pending investigation last night.



Man charged in Kuli'ou'ou fire

A 53-year-old man was charged last night with one count of first-degree criminal property damage in connection with a fire that damaged a Kuli'ou'ou home last month.

Ronald Kupele is accused of setting the fire that destroyed the single-story main portion of the home July 20. Police said Kupele lived in the home at 365 Kuli'ou'ou Road.

A two-story addition also was damaged in the fire, which caused an estimated $270,000 in damage.
