Tonight's Must-See
"The Olympics," 6 to 10 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. through early a.m., NBC. Here are the team finals for men's gymnastics with Paul Hamm and the U.S. squad trying to upset China's talented team. There are four swimming gold medals, including a match-up of the United States' Michael Phelps and Australia's Ian Thorpe in the 200-meter freestyle. Others are in men's and women's 100-meter backstroke and women's 200-meter backstroke. Women also have a gold medal in synchronized platform diving and a volleyball game between the United States and Germany.
"The Best TV Shows That Never Were," 7 p.m., ABC. The world is full of rejected TV pilots. Tom Selleck once said he had eight of them before "Magnum, P.I." made him a star. This special includes some rejects that starred Selleck, Keanu Reeves, Dennis Franz, Linda Hamilton, Marg Helgenberger and others. These are nonclassics. Shows bear such titles as "Fuzzbucket," "Poochinski," "A Dog's Life" and, alas, "Ethel is an Elephant."
Of Note
"LazyTown" debut, 7:30 a.m., Nickelodeon. Imagine a high-tech 2004 version of "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." This show, made in Iceland, has broadly funny human characters interacting with computer animation. Magnus Scheving, a champion athlete, created the show and stars as the heroic Sportacus. Stefan
Karl is the lazy Robbie Rotten and young Broadway actress Julianna Rose Mauriello is sweet Stephanie, singing a bouncy, Euro-pop tune.
"Jurassic Park III" (2001), 8 p.m., ABC. Steven Spielberg didn't stick around to direct the third one, so Joe Johnston ("October Sky") took over. Sam Neill is back on the island, again being scared by rampant dinosaurs.
"Everybody Loves Raymond," 8 p.m., CBS. In a funny episode, Ray makes the mistake of hiring his friend, Gianni, to remodel the family kitchen.
