An Army police officer was arrested Friday and charged with five counts of sexual assault after he allegedly used the Internet to lure a 14-year-old girl to Ma'ili Beach Park, where he had sex with her on the floor of his van.
On Aug. 2, a 14-year-old Wai'anae girl allegedly met Say online and struck up a relationship that consisted of telephone calls and electronic messages. Sometime between the late evening of Aug. 7 and the early morning of Aug. 8, the girl told Say she was 14, an affidavit states.
Say responded by telling her that, while he didn't care how old she was, he didn't want to start a serious relationship because he could get arrested due to their age difference. Say then made the girl promise not to tell police if they had sex because he would get into trouble.
At 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, Say picked the girl up and drove her to the parking lot of Ma'ili Beach Park in a van he was driving. After the sexual encounter, the girl got out of the van and walked away crying. She was picked up by friends and driven home the affidavit says.
The girl identified Say through a photographic lineup Aug. 9, and he was charged Friday. Bail was set at $100,000, and the city prosecutor's office said Say has posted bail.
Army officials had no comment other than to confirm that Say is a civilian police officer assigned to Fort Shafter.
