Man arrested in Waipahu heist

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary early today after a police officer saw him running from a Waipahu auto parts store.

The officer was responding to a report of an activated alarm at about 1:45 a.m. and noticed a side door was open. A man inside tried to run from the Napa store on Moloalo Street but was caught nearby, police said.

Girl, 17, facing firearms charges

A 17-year-old girl is facing two firearms charges after paramedics reported finding a handgun in her purse about noon yesterday at the Pagoda Hotel on Rycroft Street.

A city emergency medical services team went to the hotel in response to a "sick person" call and found the girl for whom help had been sought resting in her room.

While paramedics were attempting to identify the girl, they found the gun in her purse and called police.

The girl was arrested on suspicion of failing to properly store a firearm and possession of an unregistered handgun.
