Canoe races set for Kailua

Two canoe races one for men and one for women is scheduled for next weekend at Kailua Bay.
The Kailua Bay Men's Iron Challenge, a 9 1/2-mile race, is Aug. 28, starting at 9 a.m. The following day, the Dad Center Canoe Race, a 24-mile event for women, will start at 8:30 a.m.
The Dad Center Race features 10 paddlers per canoe, though 12 are allowed for the master's division.
Entry fee for the men's race is $90 and includes a T-shirt and lunch. For information on the Kailua race, contact Hank Leandro at 521-3325 or 226-2027.
Entry fee for the women's race is $170 for early registration, $200 for late. For information on the Dad Center Canoe Race, contact Outrigger Canoe Club at 923-1585 or www.outriggercanoeclub.com.

Late entries accepted for Duke's One-Mile
Late entries are being accepted for Duke's One-Mile Ocean Swim.
The event starts Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The course begins and ends in front of Duke's Canoe Club at the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel. The top three finishers in each age group will receive prizes.
Entries will be accepted through tomorrow for $30. For entry forms or additional information, e-mail dukeskealoha@aol.com.
The event is part of Duke Kahanamoku Ho'olaule'a festivities.
WRESTLING
Hawaiian Pro Am Challenge on Aug. 28
The Hawaiian Pro Am Challenge Submission Grappling event is Aug. 28 at Saint Louis School.
The event is open to men, women and children with junior and adult age divisions. Competitors will compete in their weight class with prize money awarded to the top two finishers in each class.
Weigh-ins are Aug. 27 for O'ahu residents at the University of Hawai'i athletic complex from noon to 1 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Non-O'ahu residents will weigh-in the morning of the event at Saint Louis. The single-elimination tournament starts at 11 a.m.
Entrance fees are $40 for amateurs and $80 for professionals. Proceeds will benefit the Saint Louis wrestling program.

Ex-UH Warrior stars to hold free adult clinics
Former University of Hawai'i men's volleyball players Barry Magaoay and Costas Theocharidis will conduct a free adult volleyball skills clinic under Volleyball, Etc. at the Manoa Rec Center gym.
The two-day clinic will be held today and tomorrow and is open to all adults, male and female, of all skill level.
Today's session will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tomorrow will feature two sessions from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a break from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
