Coptic Church pope to visit

The pope of the Coptic Church of Egypt, Pope Shenouda III, will make another visit to Hawai'i beginning Aug. 30.

Shenouda last was here in 1996. During this trip, his sixth visit, he will consecrate the new altar at St. Mark Coptic Church in 'Alewa Heights.

The ceremony of consecration of the altar will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 31, followed by a divine liturgy service from about 10 a.m. to noon.

St. Mark Coptic Church is at 1052 Ilima Drive.

Temple plans Thanksgiving fest

The Daijingu Temple of Hawaii at 61 Pu'iwa Road, a Shinto shrine, will host its annual Autumn Thanksgiving Festival Sept. 12.

The festival begins with a 3 p.m. service at the temple, next to Nu'uanu Valley Park on the Pali Highway, followed by a fellowship supper at 4:30 p.m. After that will be authentic Japanese classical dance by Hanayagi Dancing Academy and traditional Ryukyu dancing and entertainment.

The festival is free.
