Bowfin museum receives artifacts
The Navy Historical Center recently presented five artifacts from the now-defunct ballistic missile submarine USS Kamehameha to the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park.
A koa wood bowl, plate, replica of King Kamehameha's spear and a bust of Kamehameha have been added to the museum's collection.
The submarine, launched in 1965, was decommissioned on April 2, 2002, and was cut up for scrap. The Navy still has its sail and topside rudder, and Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Donald Cataluna has said he would like to see them displayed at Ford Island.
