ATHENS, Greece — Former University of Hawai'i All-American Marie-Luc Arpin scored two goals to help Canada beat Kazakhstan, 10-4, yesterday and capture seventh place in the Olympic women's water polo competition.

It was a game Canada probably should not have been part of, considering it beat pool-play winner USA. But the top four teams were so tight the Canadians missed out on the medal round.

Susan Gardiner, Cora Campbell and Johanne Begin also scored two goals for Canada, which led 6-1 at halftime.

Svetlana Koroleva scored all four goals for Kazakhstan.

At the last Olympics, Canada defeated Kazakhstan to take fifth in a six-team tournament.
