Photonics firm celebrates site
Los Angeles-based Advanced Photonics Integrated Circuits held an official blessing ceremony for its new research and development facility in Kaka'ako yesterday. The facility has a five-year, $100 million contract to supply the military with circuits based on photonics.
Last year the company gave $500,000 to the University of Hawai'i's engineering school to create a position in the field of photonics, the science underlying speed-of-light information technology.
Four subsidiaries of Washington state-based Metropolitan Mortgage and Securities Co. are offering eight oceanfront parcels for sale in Mokule'ia.
The parcels range in size from about one acre to approximately 19 acres, for a total of 64 acres, according to Colliers Monroe Friedlander Inc., co-listing agent for the owners. Two of the of the parcels are zoned P2 general preservation, and the others are zoned AG-2 general agriculture district.
Farm-level sales of Hawai'i fresh herbs hit a record high of $7.2 million, up 4 percent from 2002, according to figures released yesterday by the Hawaii Agricultural Statistics Service. Production also hit a record 4.2 million pounds for 2003, up 1 percent from 2002.
Honolulu marketing executive David Sayre has opened Sayre Public Relations Inc., a full-service public relations firm.
Sayre, the new firm's president, has nearly 20 years of public relations experience in Hawai'i and on the Mainland. He formerly served as managing director for Honolulu-based PRWorks.
