Man accused of damaging items

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree criminal property damage after he allegedly took a garden hose and doused a washing machine and dryer at a Windward O'ahu substance-abuse treatment center at about 4:50 p.m. yesterday.

Police said the man was a participant in one of the center's programs. The washer and dryer's electrical systems were damaged to the point the machines were inoperable, police said.

Assault charges follow fistfight

A 42-year-old man is facing third-degree assault charges after an argument at Kewalo Basin Park escalated into a fistfight at about 11:15 a.m. yesterday.

A 35-year-old man told police the older man struck him on the face, head and nose resulting in several scrapes and bruises.

The suspect was arrested without incident.
