ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Manage back-to-school morning madness

Advertiser Staff

Are your mornings pure madness when trying to get the kids off to school? Here are a few FamilyFun magazine tips worth trying:

  • "Top of the stairs" checklist: In a prominent place, where kids running out for breakfast can see it, post their morning checklist (wash up, make bed, check for homework, etc.).
  • Notable notes: The trick to remembering notes isn't writing them, but posting them where you'll see them, such as the zipper of a backpack (attach with a clothespin, if necessary).
  • Card 'em: Parents with more than one student keep track of what each needs for activities, (i.e., "Jenny's ballet: toe shoes, leotard, bus money for rehearsal"). Make one for each day, punch a hole in the corner of the card and hook it on a key ring on the fridge. It flips to show each day's "to do" list.

Hula photo fitting icon for film festival

Given the mostly stellar history of artwork associated with the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival, our expectations were high for this year's signature image.

So score another one for the Fest.

This year's eye-catching photo of a hula dancer with a celluloid film skirt was put together by Dale Vermeer, Daniel Ziegler and photographer John DeMello.

The hula hands belong to dancer Radasha Ho'ohuli, who used her own moves to communicate a sense of welcoming. The skirt was created by stylist Amos Kotomori.

But you want to put a face to the figure, right?

Then check out the accompanying trailer and public service announcement, which feature Ho'ohuli dancing to the music of Davo.

Final word

Nick Lachey | When asked if his wife, Jessica Simpson, had a problem with his on-screen lip lock with Alyssa Milano during his six-episode arc as Milano's love interest on the WB's "Charmed":

"I'm in the clear here because when she did 'That '70s Show,' she had to kiss Ashton (Kutcher). They did like five takes of the scene, so I got a free pass ..."
