Ilaoa won't play in UH football season opener

University of Hawai'i slotback Nate Ilaoa will not play in the football team's Sept. 4 season opener against Florida Atlantic because he is still recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right knee, head coach June Jones said today.

Jones said there is no timetable for Ilaoa's return. Jones said Iloa's right knee will be tested periodically until it is deemed 100 percent by the athletic trainers.

Ilaoa was projected to start at right slotback. Se'e Poumele is now the starter there.
