ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Bring your dancing shoes to the Academy

Advertiser Staff

If swing's your thing, head out to the Honolulu Academy of Arts for a dose of big-band sounds and dance performances at Summer Swing!, 5 to 9 tonight.

The event is presented by ARTafterDARK, a group of young adults dedicated to exploring the visual arts, so guests will get full access to all of the museum's galleries. There will be music by Swingtime in Hawaii, dance lessons from Jennifer and Matthew Wong, and a variety of summer fare available for purchase.

Admission is $7, which can be credited toward academy membership if you sign up that night; free for members. Zoot suits are optional. For details: 532-6091.

Big play for Baik

Baik Designs in Gentry Pacific Design Center, one of Honolulu's first companies to import home furnishings from Indonesia, has been making a big splash in national magazines this year.

More than six periodicals have featured the firm, including: the current issue of Coastal Living; the March issue of In Style, with model Kristin Davis (from "Sex and the City") and props by Baik; Travel & Leisure's April issue; and two issues of Architectural Digest. Owners Ed and Lisa Tseu are thrilled.
