O'ahu reaches Babe Ruth title game
Advertiser Staff
Two late errors allowed O'ahu to oust Nash County, N.C., from the Babe Ruth (ages 14) World Series last night.
O'ahu capitalized on the consecutive mistakes and scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 2-1 victory at Wilson, N.C.
O'ahu will play Harris Township, Ind., today for the title.
Landen Taga, the first batter for O'ahu in the bottom of the eighth, drew a walk off Justin Shannonhouse, who replaced Ryan Waldrep on the mound.
Taga advanced to second after Nash catcher Alex Pearce overthrew first base on a pickoff attempt.
Geoffrey Kunita laid down a bunt, and Pearce fielded it and overthrew first base, allowing Taga to score the game-winning run.
O'ahu's Harrison Ishida Jr. allowed seven hits in seven innings with one walk and nine strikeouts. Paul Snieder pitched the eighth for the victory.
Waldrep also pitched seven innings, walking one and striking out three.
"Their pitcher kept throwing strikes all night long and really kept us off balance," O'ahu coach Eric Kadooka said.
Harris Township downed Frederick, Md., 6-4, in an earlier game. Harris scored six times in the fifth inning to rally from a 4-0 deficit.
"We're going to have to put pressure on them (Harris). We are going to have to hit and score a lot if we want to win," Kadooka said.
