Two shot in HCC parking lot fight

The Honolulu Police Department reported an incident in which two males, aged 16 and 19, were shot at Honolulu Community College at around 10:30 Friday night.

Details were sketchy, but police said a fight between two groups broke out in the HCC parking lot. Three males from each group were involved when another member of one group pulled a pistol and shot two people.

At that moment everyone in the parking lot scattered, police said. The two wounded males were later taken to The Queen's Medical Center where they were treated. There was no word on the condition of the victims or whether they were released.

Police said the gunman, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was still at large.

Gas-masked thief hits tented house

Workers removing tenting from a chemically treated house in Kahala yesterday uncovered a burglar using a gas mask.

The man fled as the tenting was removed from the house in the 4500 block of Kahala Ave. at about 9:30 a.m., but police found him a few blocks away and arrested him.

They found a backpack stuffed with silverware and a gas mask he dropped as he fled.

The Honolulu police version of a SWAT team reported to the area when sounds inside the house raised concerns that another burglar — possibly armed — was still inside.

Streets surrounding the house were closed during the late morning and early afternoon and neighbors were evacuated.

No accomplice was found inside the house.

Main break halts Hale'iwa traffic

A water main break in Hale'iwa stopped traffic in both directions on Kamehameha Highway yesterday and caused service disruptions to customers.

The 15-inch-main break was reported after 4 p.m. at 62-540 Kamehameha Highway.

Water crews worked for several hours just to bring the water break under control, then into the night to repair the 15-inch main. A spokeswoman said water flow was being rerouted and repairs will go well into today. The Board of Water Supply asks that customers from Kawela to Hale'iwa, including Sunset Beach and Pupukea use water for essential purposes only, that people do not wash their cars or do laundry until the repairs are finished.

Police closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions between the Joseph P. Leong bypass and Jamison's By The Sea in Hale'iwa while crews worked.

Man, 18, charged in fatal crash

An 18-year-old Big Island man has been charged with manslaughter and a number of other crimes in a head-on collision Aug. 19 that killed two people.

Stanley Keliiholokai of Volcano was being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $30,500 bail.

Police said Keliiholokai was driving a Mitsubishi sedan toward Hilo on Volcano Highway when he attempted to pass several vehicles in a no-passing zone near Nahelenani Street in Volcano.

His car collided head-on with a Chevrolet sedan driven by Rogelio Manahan.

Keliiholokai's front-seat passenger, Clinton Kaleiwahea, 31, of Volcano, and Manahan's wife and front-seat passenger, Jeannette E. Manahan, 53, of Elmhurst, New York, were killed in the crash.
