UHH, HPU are 3-0 in volleyball event

The Hawai'i-Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific women's volleyball teams improved to 3-0 yesterday in the Hawaiian Style Classic at St. Andrew's Priory gym.
Shara Parker had 25 kills, and Maite Ardies 12 kills and 21 digs as Hilo beat Humboldt State, 30-28, 28-30, 30-13, 30-23.
Earlier, Hilo beat Mercyhurst College, 30-27, 30-18, 31-29, behind 14 kills and 13 digs by Ardies. Parker added 14 kills and Christina Cooley had 12.
Also yesterday, Flavia Brakling had 20 kills as 12th-ranked Hawai'i Pacific swept Mercyhurst, 30-19, 30-18, 30-18.
Earlier, Nadica Karleusa had 10 kills in HPU's 30-14, 30-17, 30-16 rout of Humboldt.
Elsewhere, Brigham Young-Hawai'i split a pair of matches on the final day of the Otter Classic in Monterey, Calif.
BYUH fell to Cal State-Bakersfield, 30-23, 27-30, 28-30, 30-28, 15-12, but then beat Cal State-Monterey Bay, 30-28, 30-25, 30-19.
UH football assistants at Quarterback Club
University of Hawai'i assistant football coaches Ron Lee (receivers) and Mouse Davis (special teams) will speak at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
Also scheduled to speak are Kalani High girls volleyball coach Aven Lee and TV personality Russell Shimooka, host of the June Jones Show.
Lunch at the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom starts at 11:30 a.m. with the program to follow at noon. The public is invited.
Jones to speak at Na Koa Club
Hawai'i football coach June Jones and his staff will preview the Warriors' season opener at tomorrow's meeting of the Na Koa Football Club.
The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center and is open to the public.
The Warriors open the season Saturday against Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
St. Mary's beats Pacific on late goal
McKenna Belzer scored with 1:20 left in regulation to lift St. Mary's (Calif.) to a 2-1 victory over Pacific last night in the OHANA Hotels & Resorts No Ka Oi Tournament at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex.
Belzer also assisted on Marissa Malkeiwicz's goal in the first half.
Audrey Booth scored for Pacific, which plays host Hawai'i today at 5 p.m. in the tournament finale.
Pavao has one-stroke lead at Olomana
Duane Pavao shot the day's only sub-par round, posting a 1-under 69 yesterday to take a one-stroke lead in the Amatour Hawai'i's Olomana Shootout at the Olomana Golf Links.
David Hamada (70) is second, followed by Michael Miguel (71) and Travis Toyama (72) in the tour's first major of the season.
