BUSINESS BRIEFS
Schuman closes Beretania facility

Advertiser Staff

Schuman Carriage shut its doors yesterday at its main location at Beretania and Pi'ikoi.

Schuman, which sold Cadillac, Hummer, Buick and GMC vehicles at the Beretania dealership, announced in September plans to end operations. The company did not give a reason.

A letter posted on the door of the Beretania Schuman dealership said, "GM will, in the future announce a new Cadillac, Hummer, Buick and GMC dealer." There are other General Motors dealers on O'ahu, but Schuman was the only Cadillac and Hummer dealer.

Airport unveils new checkpoint

Honolulu International Airport will open a new $5 million centralized airport checkpoint and a new Duty Free main store today.

The new checkpoint, diamondhead of the Japan Airlines ticket counters, will have room to add extra security lanes if necessary to reduce passenger wait times, the state Department of Transportation said.

The checkpoint also is aimed at directing travelers to airport retail stores such as the new 10,000-square-foot Duty Free main store.
