Getting organized for holidays
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Jenny Pemberton, owner of List Lovers in Ashland, Ky., offers week-by-week tips for staying organized during the holidays:
This week
- Decorate inside your home and get everyone involved in trimming the tree, hanging garland and checking lights.
- Take inventory of holiday items including stamps, envelopes, party goods and baking supplies.
- Establish a "wrapping station" in a little-used area of your house. Stock it with tape, scissors, wrapping paper and ribbon.
Next week
- Plan the holiday menu.
- Mail holiday cards or packages.
- Decide on or shop for a special holiday outfit.
Week before Christmas
- Purchase menu items.
- Prepare foods that can be frozen in advance, including cookies, soups and pies.
- Finish holiday shopping.
Week of Christmas
- Finalize holiday plans.
- Make sure all gifts are wrapped, food is ready to eat.
The big day
- Set the table.
- Prepare food.
After the holiday
- Clean again.
- Put away dishes and gifts.
- Pack similar items together.
- Label boxes for next year.
