Rainbow Wahine top Colorado in NCAA first round

The University of Hawai'i defeated Colorado, 24-30, 30-22, 30-20, 30-24, today in first round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament at Fort Collins, Colo.

Susie Boogaard had 16 kills to lead the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawai'i (29-0), ranked No. 2 in the nation and seeded third in the tournament, tomorrow will play Purdue (17-14), which upset No. 9 Colorado State in five games, 30-25, 25-30, 30-27, 22-30, 15-12.

Tomorrow's second-round match will be played at 4 p.m. Hawai'i time and broadcast live on K5 and on KKEA 1420 AM.

Colorado finished its season 14-14.

Tara Hittle had 12 kills and Alicia Arnott and Victoria Prince each had 11 against Colorado. Prince led UH with seven blocks. Arnott and setter Kanoe Kamana'o each had 14 digs.

Allie Griffin, Nicole Carr and Lara Bossow each had 14 kills for Colorado.

The Buffs got off to a quick start getting 22 kills and and seven errors and a .395 hitting percentage in the first game. UH hit a poor .219 (14 kills, 7 errors).

The Rainbow Wahine hit .147 in the second game, but Colorado dipped to .053.

UH did its best hitting in the third game when it hit .485 (21 kills, 5 errors).
