Man takes car at knife-point

Police were looking for a man estimated to be in his late 20s or early 30s who took a car at knife-point early this morning from a 63-year-old man at the Zippy's restaurant at 59 N. Vineyard Blvd.

Police said the man from whom the car was taken was getting out of his 1974 Lincoln about 1:20 a.m. when a stranger approached him, flashed a knife and told the man to get out of the way.

The robber then took off with the car, which was later found on Nu'uanu Avenue, less than a quarter of a mile away from where it was taken, police said.

The case was classified as first-degree robbery.

Bicyclist strikes car, critically hurt

A bicyclist was critically injured yesterday evening when he struck a car at the corner of Kalihi and Nalanieha streets.

Police traffic investigators said the 69-year-old bicyclist was coming down a hill while heading makai on Kalihi Street, failed to negotiate a turn near Nalanieha Street and slammed into a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta that had stopped on Nalanieha for a red light.

The cyclist was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition but was later downgraded to critical condition.

The driver of the Volkswagen and a passenger were not injured, police said.
