A couple of very different shows, targeting very different audiences, are new on the stage front. One is based on the wacky characters of children's author Dr. Seuss; the other is a look into the male mind, for a mature audience only.

Diamond Head Theatre is offering the family-friendly musical "Seussical" this holiday season. Written by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, "Seussical" re-creates the colorful, fantastical world of Dr. Seuss, including characters such as the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz and others.

The show is directed by Greg Zane, with choreography by Tim Albrecht. Colin Miyamoto is the Cat in the Hat, Scott Moura is Horton, Stephanie Conching is Gertrude McFuzz, Grace Bell Humerickhouse is Mayzie LaBird, and TX Tario and Ka'iana Kau share the role of Jojo.

Show times are 8 p.m. today, repeating at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays, through Dec. 19; also, 3 p.m. matinees Dec. 11 and 18 have been added to the run.

Tickets are $12-$42 general, with discounts for students, those 62 and older and military. 733-0274, www.diamondheadtheatre.com.

Leeward Community College enters the late-night theater realm with "Daredevil Blues," a one-man show written by Eric Yokomori, directed by Troy M. Apostol and starring Demetrius Guerrero.

"Daredevil," a dark comedy, premiered in September at Kumu Kahua. It consists of 11 original monologues (one new) that center on men's perspectives on love, sex, age and death, with audience interaction.

The play is for mature audiences only, and those brave enough to enter are asked to bring a towel.

Show time is 10 p.m. today at Leeward Community College lab theater (makai/diamond-head side of the building).

Admission is $5 general, a vailable an hour before the show. Half of the proceeds will benefit the college drama department.
