All-4-One in concert

All-4-One gives a concert tonight at Pipeline.

Grammy award-winning pop quartet All-4-One prepares to serenade the town with its signature smooth ballads and soulful tunes. Best known for the hit love song "I Swear," the group also crooned its way to the top of the charts with "So Much in Love," "And the Music Speaks" and "Someday." Doors open at 5 p.m.

The final Festival of Trees

Revel in the glory of the Christmas tree at The Queen's Medical Center Auxiliary's 50th and final Festival of Trees. Bid on the fanciful miniature trees decorated by Island celebs at the silent auction or browse the holiday bazaar filled with handmade gifts, ornaments, decorations and collectibles. Bidding for the silent auction closes at 2 p.m. Sunday. This three-day fund-raiser benefits the new Women's Health Center.

Nabors rings in the holidays

Jim Nabors and pals celebrate the season in three concerts.
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood as the holiday favorite "A Merry Christmas with Friends and Nabors" hits the stage again this weekend. Starring Jim Nabors, the show gets into the Christmas spirit with performances by Jimmy Borges, Karen Keawehawai'i, Emma Veary, Philip Huber and the Huber Marionettes, Diamond Head Theatre Shooting Stars and Hula Hui O Kupunahala 'O Nu'uanu YMCA. Matt Catingub will conduct the Honolulu Symphony. Expect to hear holiday classics such as "White Christmas," "Silent Night," "The First Noel," "Joy to the World" and "O Holy Night." Tom Hansen directs.

Concertante performs Saturday

The Honolulu Chamber Music series continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary season with a performance by Concertante. The renowned six-member ensemble hails from New York with members Tom Kraines on cello, Xiao-Dong Wang on violin, Rachel Shapiro on viola, Ittai Shapira on violin, Ara Gregorian on violin and viola, and Alexis Pia Gerlach on cello. The program includes Martinu String Sextet, Schoenberg's "Verklarte Nacht" and Dvorak Sextet in A Major op. 48.

Also, the performers will take part in a free pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the UH Music Building, Room 36. Punk at Pink Cadillac

Hardcore punk band The Dwarves, above, careens into town for its Hawai'i debut. Also adding to the music madness will be local rockers The Quintessentials, 2face4 and Extra Stout. Presented by Hawaiian Express, this all-ages show includes filming for a future DVD release.

It's First Friday

Kick off the holiday season with a bit of culture at the monthly First Fridays art gallery walk. Here's a peek at some of tonight's offerings:

  • Guitarist Shoji Ledward, above, gives a Christmas concert in the Hawai'i State Art Museum galleries, playing holiday music mixed with old jazz classics.
  • The ARTS at Marks Garage hosts "Wrap It Up," a holiday gift gallery with members of the Pacific Handcrafters Guild. There will be arts and crafts demonstrations as well as gift-wrapping services.
  • At Café Che Pasta, take a look at the works of David Cornwell with Tom Shiu and Michael Horton. Lou Benato, Eien Hunter and Brian Bilberry provide electric jazz sounds from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Fingerstyle guitarist Michael Tanenbaum plays world music amidst the exhibits at the Contemporary Museum at First Hawaiian Center. There will be docent-led walkthroughs of the three exhibitions open for viewing. The gallery/bank will be closed 6-7 p.m.
  • Washington Place hosts an open house to celebrate the holiday season with a free guided stroll through the 157-year-old home. The second floor showcases a Victorian Christmas tree, reminiscent of the era in which the home was built. A photo exhibit also features Christmas through the years at the house with former first families.

Look for banners indicating other participating venues, including Bethel Street Gallery, Hanks Café Honolulu, Louis Pohl Gallery, Na Mea Hawai'i, The Pegge Hopper Gallery, Ramsay Museum, Studio of Roy Venters, thirtyninehotel and Toshiko Takaezu Ceramics Studio at the YWCA.

10 years of 'Island Moments'

Emme Tomimbang and an all-star lineup of entertainers will celebrate the season and the 10th anniversary of Tomimbang's television show "Emme's Island Moments." The concert, which will be taped for airing, will include Willie K., The Makaha Sons, Hapa, Melveen Leed and Jordan Segundo. Premiere sponsorship includes a VIP pre-concert reception featuring heavy pupu by celeb chefs Alan Wong, Roy Yamaguchi, Sam Choy and Russell Siu. A portion of the concert proceeds will benefit the Institute for Human Services and the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse & Legal Hotline.

Celebrating in Kaimuki

Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning Christian recording artists Randy and Gay Hongo headline the holiday concert "Christmas in Kaimuki." The Hongos will perform favorites including "O Holy Night," "Christmas in the Islands Again" and "Local Kine Tings." Gospel artists Tony and JennyLee Tam Sing appear as well, along with Angelica Romanillos and Halau Ho'omana o Ka Haku (above). The event is a benefit for Common Grace, a reading/mentorship program between local churches and public elementary schools.

Youth Symphony 'Fanfares'

The Hawai'i Youth Symphony Association opens its 40th anniversary season with a winter concert, "Fanfares: Celebrating 40 Years." Professional musicians and youth symphony alumni return to help celebrate the momentous occasion with the orchestras, including, from left, violinist Anna Lim, string bassist Kurt Muroki and composer Jon Magnussen. Henry Miyamura is artistic director. Angela Baraquio emcees.

Fair weather at St. Andrew's

St. Andrew's Priory gets into the Christmas spirit by hosting a Holiday Fair featuring homemade baked goods, jams and jellies, arts and crafts with Santa's Workshop and Fire It Up ornaments, a country store and games. There's entertainment by Hawai'i Pacific University band and cheerleaders, Drill Team Hawaii, the St. Andrew's Priory School wind ensemble, chamber strings and Priory choirs. Proceeds benefit the school.
