ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Artists' work boosts fund-raiser

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Cora Yee's artwork sells for anywhere from $2.50 to $2,400. This week, she and seven other local artists have ventured into new territory: They are in the midst of finding out how much their attempts at designing Christmas ornaments for charity will fetch during The Advertiser's "Creations for a Cause" online bidding fund-raiser that continues through 1 p.m. Tuesday.

As of yesterday morning, Yee's "Leopard Pendant Ornament" had reached $50 in bidding, and the six ornament packages and tree lamp had raised more than $535 for the Advertiser Christmas Fund. Yee's leopard image is a version of what she drew in 1996 for the cover of Lois-Ann Yamanaka's first novel, "Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers." Follow the bidding or find out more about Yee and all the ornaments and artists. Bids are charitable donations for the Christmas Fund.

Final word

"We don't care about our money or our phones. I mean, I care about my phone. We can live with a normal family and adapt to their environment."
