HILO, Hawai'i Police charged a 24-year-old man yesterday with holding his girlfriend captive for nearly two months and repeatedly beating and sexually assaulting her.
Police said the girlfriend was rescued and brought Wednesday from an Ainaloa Estates residence to the Pahoa police substation by another woman, launching a manhunt. A police helicopter was used to look for the suspect, with officers eventually cornering Horcajo in a vacant lot in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
The girlfriend suffered numerous fractures and internal injuries and was bruised over most of her body after being beaten repeatedly, police said. Fire Department personnel took her to the Hilo Medical Center, where she was reported in stable condition.
The woman told detectives she had been held prisoner and repeatedly abused since mid-October.
Ernest Horcajo III, who police said is the subject of several previous warrants, is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault and four counts of first-degree sex assault. He was being held at the Hawai'i Community Correctional Center in lieu of $104,000 bail.
