Chaminade trounces Hawai'i-Hilo, 92-73

Zack Whiting had 23 points and 10 assists to lead host Chaminade past Hawai'i-Hilo, 92-73, in a Pacific West Conference game yesterday at McCabe Gym.
Chaminade improved to 4-3, 1-0 conference. UH-Hilo fell to 4-1, 0-1 PacWest.
Hilo's Osadonor Esene had a game-high 31 points, sinking 11 of 13 from the free-throw line.
Chaminade hit 10 three-point field goals, including four by Chris Reaves, who finished with 13 points. Nick Frey hit 6 of 7 shots and finished with 16 points.
Swimming & diving
UH diver Wang wins
University of Hawai'i diver Rui Wang won the platform event at the Texas Invitational yesterday.
Wang scored 512.10 points to win by more than 40 points.
Melanie Schlanger broke her own school record in the 100 free by .14 of a second with a time of 49.35 seconds to lead the Rainbow Wahine (269 points) to a sixth-place finish in the 13-team field.
Schlanger finished fourth in the 100 and received UH's only NCAA automatic qualifying time during the three-day meet.
The UH men scored 161 points and finished eighth among 12 teams.
Texas swept the women's (821) and men's (764.5) competition.

Aikau holding period on
The holding period for the 20th Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational at Waimea Bay will run through Feb. 28, 2005.
This one-day event, named after revered big wave surfer and Waimea Bay lifeguard Eddie Aikau, will be held when the surf reaches heights of 20 feet or more.
Twenty-four of the world's best big wave surfers will compete for the winner's prize of $50,000, the largest in competitive surfing
