Two men held in 'Ewa killingPolice yesterday captured two men they had been searching for in connection with the Nov. 19 shooting death of a man at 'Oneula Beach Park in 'Ewa Beach.
Acting on a CrimeStoppers tip, officers from the Honolulu Police Department's Specialized Services Division, or SWAT team, found Justin Luhia, 24, and Alexander Akuna Jr., 29, in an apartment on Lusitana Street.
Police homicide Lt. Bill Kato said charges of second-degree murder are pending against the two men in connection with the death of Joseph Halbuna, 44, of 'Ewa Beach, who was shot in the face as he sat in the parking lot at the beach bark, also known as Hau Bush.
Police look into baby's injuries
Police have opened an investigation into how a 6-month-old boy's leg was broken.
They said the boy was taken to Tripler Army Medical Center yesterday for treatment of a leg injury that reportedly occurred Nov. 29. A pediatrician at Tripler determined the boy's right leg was broken.
Police said no suspects have been identified yet.
Man may face threat charge
A 39-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of terroristic threatening after he allegedly pulled a knife and threatened a 42-year-old man on Mohalu Street in Waipio Gentry.
Police said the two men were arguing just before 7 p.m. when one pulled a knife and threatened to stab the other.
The man who pulled the knife ran away but was arrested when he returned to the scene of the argument, police said.
Suspect sought in sexual attack
Police are checking on a report filed by the mother of a 15-year-old girl who said the child was sexually assaulted on Sunday by a man known to the girl only as "Daniel."
Police said the girl reported the incident to her counselor at school, who notified the girl's parents.
Investigators have not been able to find a suspect.
Boy, 16, caught during break-in
A 16-year-old boy was arrested yesterday in Pearl City on suspicion of attempted burglary.
Police said a 41-year-old man was home when he heard a louver being removed about 4:15 p.m. from a window near his front door.
The man then saw a hand reach through the window and unlock the door, police said.
They said the resident was able to detain the boy until police arrived and arrested him.
Dubious $20 bill leads to an arrest
A 23-year-old woman was arrested at a Waikiki hotel on suspicion of passing counterfeit bills to pay for her stay.
Police said the woman went to the hotel's front desk about 7:45 a.m. yesterday and asked to extend her stay.
The desk clerk noticed that at least one of the $20 bills the woman had given him was counterfeit, and he called his supervisor, police said.
The supervisor also concluded the bill was bogus, police were called and the woman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree forgery. She was later released without charges pending further investigation.
Woman suspect in car-theft case
A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of car theft and other charges yesterday.
The arrest happened after a U.S. Defense Department police officer notified Honolulu police via his car radio that the woman was driving hazardously about 1 p.m. near Wahiawa.
He relayed the car's license plate number.
After learning the license plate belonged to a stolen car, the federal officer followed the woman into a cane field, where Honolulu police arrested, her on suspicion of car theft and driving without a license.
While searching the woman, police reported, they found a crystal methamphetamine pipe with residue inside it, which resulted in additional bookings on suspicion of promoting dangerous drugs and possessing narcotics paraphernalia.
