Longtime Fresno State women's volleyball coach Lindy Vivas was told yesterday by school officials her contract will not be renewed.
Fresno State Athletic Director Scott Johnson yesterday said the school is launching a national search for Vivas' replacement, according to a statement on the school's Web site.
Vivas, a 1975 Punahou graduate, led the Bulldogs to three NCAA Tournament appearances and has a 14-year record of 263-167. She was 15-13 this season.
She has been active in recruiting Hawai'i players, and had three on her roster this season Kahuku's Tuli Peters, Kamehameha Schools' Mounia Nihipali and Iolani's La'akea Campbell.
Vivas could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Her attorney, Rayma Church, said the coach is pursuing legal action against the school, saying Vivas was released in retaliation because of her outspokenness on behalf of student-athletes, and her pursuit of federal action to end animosity toward women at the school.
