Pre-empted 'King and I' will be restaged

Advertiser Staff

An isolated blackout affecting Fort Shafter forced cancellation of the second act of last Friday's sold out "The King and I" at Richardson Theatre. Ticket-holders can see the remainder of the Army Community Theatre show at 7:30 p.m. today.

Vanita Rae Smith, producer-director of the musical, said the theater lost power just as everyone was seated after intermission. The crowd of 800-plus was evacuated because an electric pole had fallen nearby during high winds.

The theater was attempting to reach all ticket buyers by phone; those attending should bring their ticket stubs tonight. Only those who had seats for last Friday's show may attend; the musical officially closed after Saturday night's performance.
