Girl searching for puppy that fled crash on H-1

In the moments after the car smashed into his truck, Larry Spalding could only think of his little girl.

Rocky, a Sharpei puppy, ran away after the truck he was riding in was hit by a car. His owners are asking for help in finding him.

Seven-year-old Sarah Spalding had been sleeping on the seat next to him. It was 5:30 Tuesday morning and father and daughter were on their commute into town. Sarah was catching some extra sleep before reporting for school at Saint Andrew's Priory. Her puppy, Rocky, was riding in the bed of the truck under the camper shell.

The Spalding's truck was rear-ended on H-1 town bound by the Farrington overpass. The impact wedged the truck's back bumper onto the hood of the other car. Larry got whiplash and had to be taken to a hospital for treatment. Thankfully, Sarah wasn't hurt, but her little dog was so scared, it went running off into the dark.

Spalding has tried everything he can think of to find Rocky. He has gone back to the scene of the accident and scoured the bushes calling Rocky's name. He has contacted veterinarians, the Humane Society, city and state road crews. He thinks someone must be caring for the puppy. "He's so cute. I'm sure someone took him in," he says.

Spalding is offering a reward for Rocky's return. "My daughter is up every night drawing pictures of him and crying," he says. "This is such a hard time for her."

Rocky is an all-black male Sharpei puppy. He weighs about 30 pounds, looks like a black lab with a wrinkled face, and answers to his name.
