Family Album

The story behind this photo is one of determination and sacrifice: Yukiko Ohara, left, is seen here with her mom, Mayumi Ohara, following the Nov. 15 ceremony during which Yukiko, who had aspired to be a lawyer since she was 12, was admitted to the Hawai'i State Bar. Yukiko Ohara, from Osaka, Japan, is now a full-fledged attorney after almost a decade of work: studying English in Japan, fighting homesickness as she earned her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minn., and passing the bar in Hawai'i. She wore a kimono to honor her homeland and sent in the photo to honor those who helped to make her dream come true.
