Quarterback Humphrey leaving UH

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Freshman quarterback Taylor Humphrey has requested — and received — a release from his University of Hawai'i football scholarship, UH coach June Jones confirmed today.

Jones said Humphrey wants to transfer to another school.

"He wants to go to a different level to play a little bit more," Jones said.

Dan Morrison, who coaches the UH quarterbacks, said the Orinda, Calif., quarterback was "pretty homesick throughout the process. We wish him the best. He's leaving on very good terms. We'll help him any way we can."

Humphrey, who was redshirting this season, passed for more than 5,500 yards and 46 touchdowns at Miramonte High.

In accordance with NCAA rules, Humphrey is eligible to play during the 2005 season if he transfers to a Division I-AA, II or III program. If he goes to another Division I-A team, he will have to redshirt next season.
