Charges pending in stolen-car caseCharges are pending against a 21-year-old man who police say stole a pizza delivery driver's car yesterday.
The Pizza Hut driver left his engine running while he delivered his order to a Pearl City home about 9:30 p.m. and returned to see someone stealing his car, police said. With the help of the person who ordered the pizza, he chased the car thief.
They caught him at a bus stop, where police arrested him.
Purse snatcher chased down
A 55-year-old woman waiting for a city bus and several bystanders waiting with her chased down a knife-wielding purse-snatcher about 7:30 p.m. yesterday in Waikele, police said.
The woman was at the bus stop when a 17-year-old boy allegedly grabbed her purse and ran. The woman and several bystanders ran after the boy and caught him while police were called. But the teenager then pulled a knife out of his pants pocket and tried to stab one of the bystanders, police said.
Police arrested the youth and first-degree robbery charges are pending.
Man arrested in sexual assault
Police arrested a 37-year-old Hau'ula man yesterday for investigation of sexual assault.
His two alleged victims a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old girl told police he sexually assaulted them several times between Nov. 3, 1996 and Nov. 2, 2003.
Lucky break aids burglary victim
A Ka'a'awa burglary victim got lucky yesterday when he told a police officer investigating another case that someone had just stolen his laptop computer.
The 60-year-old victim was driving when he spotted the officer, who was questioning two young men in their vehicle during a traffic stop, police said. The burglary victim looked into their vehicle and saw his laptop computer.
Police arrested the two young men, ages 20 and 22. Charges are pending.
Man arrested in assault case
Two children were placed in protective custody after their 45-year-old father was arrested yesterday for investigation of sexual assault, police said.
The victim in the case, 14, told her school counselor that her father had sexually assaulted her Monday and yesterday at their Waikiki home, police said.
Officers arrested the man and placed the 14-year-old girl and a younger sibling with Child Welfare Services. The suspect remained in custody pending further investigation.
