• "Flight of the Phoenix": Remake of the 1965 James Stewart adventure picture about a plane that crashes in the desert. Marooned without a radio, the survivors seem doomed until one of them says he's an aircraft designer and believes a new plane can be built from the wreckage of the old. Paramount Pictures • "Spanglish": A Mexican-American maid and her daughter bring healing calm to a Los Angeles family where the mother (Tea Leoni) is hysterical, the father (Adam Sandler) is "stark raving calm," the grandmother (Cloris Leachman) is an alcoholic and the daughter (Sarah Steele) is their role model.
