Family of seven struggling to pay bills on one salary

V.X. has been working as a clerk for the same company for eight years, but her husband was laid off from his job, and V.X.'s salary doesn't cover the bills.
"It's been really rough," V.X. said.
Her five children all need some clothes, and she would like them to have Christmas presents.
V.X. would love to have grocery store gift certificates to help her feed her kids. She sounds happy when she talks about buying peanut butter and apples for after-school snacks.
The boys, 5 and 4, would like skateboards and Spider-Man toys. Her oldest girls, 16 and 14, would like CD players and backpacks.
Her youngest daughter would like a baby brother or sister, but mom has nixed that idea, and thinks the 3-year-old would be content with a doll and carriage and a bike with training wheels. She likes the color pink.

To donate, send checks payable to "The Advertiser Christmas Fund" to Helping Hands Hawai'i, P.O. Box 17780, Honolulu, HI 96817.
Monetary donations also may be dropped off at any First Hawaiian Bank branch.
Goods can be donated at the Community Clearinghouse at 2100 N. Nimitz Highway, near Pu'uhale Road. For details, call 440-3804.

Christmas Fund donations will be used for families who need help making it through the holidays. Any money remaining after the holidays will be used to help those in need throughout the year. For information on how to donate, see the "How to Help" box
